A bump test is a functional check of a gas detector, performed by briefly exposing the device to a known concentration of target gas. It verifies that the sensor and alarm system (audible, visual, and vibration) respond correctly.
Note: A bump test does not calibrate the sensor—it is solely used to confirm basic operational integrity prior to use.

Even though all devices are factory-calibrated, many industries (e.g., oil and gas, mining, fire services, laboratories) require routine bump testing for the following reasons:
To detect sensor failure caused by aging, contamination, or poisoning
To ensure the alarm system functions correctly
To enhance operator safety, especially before entering hazardous or confined spaces

1. Prepare a standard test gas with a known concentration.
2. Attach the calibration cap to the detector's gas inlet and connect the gas tubing to the cap.

· Is the reading within a reasonable tolerance range?
